Ideation
I was in Japan last December before the start of semester 2 and attended a matcha-making workshop in Kyoto that kickstarted the concept of this project. During the workshop, the instructor explained that to get fine matcha powder from green tea leaves, one has to turn the mill counterclockwise. They provided small stone mills for each person to mill for at least ten minutes just to get a small amount of matcha powder and the process was rather tiring. This got me thinking about how ironic it was to tediously go backwards in order to synthesise something new, symbolising a form of retrospection and transformation.
